Inspired Therapeutics Announces Award of NIH SBIR Phase I Grant to Develop Next Generation NeoMate Pediatric Ventricular Assist System
Inspired Therapeutics LLC announced today that the company was awarded a $415,921 Small Business Innovation Research Grant from the National Institutes of Health to develop the next-generation NeoMate extracorporeal mechanical circulatory support (MCS) system for pediatric cardiopulmonary indications for use.
Currently, over 14,000 children are hospitalized every year with cardiopulmonary dysfunction or congenital heart defects with limited therapeutic support options available. The number of children listed for heart transplant continues to grow (600 annually) and is associated with a 17% mortality rate while on the waiting list for a donor organ, which is the highest wait-list mortality rate for any organ transplant list in the US.
Note: The NeoMate system is under development and is not for clinical use pending submission and approval of required regulatory approvals.
